Lettuce Tomato Salad

To start with, let's understand salad and its significance.

Salad, according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is any of the various "usually cold dishes" that include raw greens, vegetables, and toppings. It is observed that nutritious vegetables do not look that appealing when served as a meal in the main course but are more attractive when served raw as salad. Thus, for those who live with a meat-and-potato person who doesn't like vegetables or for children who give half of the cooked vegetables to their pets, salads are a lifesaver.

Salads can be divided into four categories: green salads, fruit salads, vegetable salads; salads of pasta, legumes, or grains; mixed salads incorporating meat, poultry, or seafood.

From above, green salads, vegetable salads, and fruit salads are considered healthy salads because they are low in calories and consist of high nutritional value.

Now grab some ingredients from the pantry and get ready to make a delicious salad out of it:

Cucumbers:

Peeled or unpeeled cucumbers (pickle, dill, garden, long English, Persian) work well.

Tomatoes:

Any full-grown, grape, or cherry tomato will suffice. For a good garden salad, one may like local beefsteak and Romaine lettuce. One may like heritage tomatoes as well, but sometimes the cost is prohibitive, and tomatoes on the vine are as tasty (especially in winter when all there is in stores are plastic-y tomatoes from Mexico).

Lettuce:

Boston, red leaf, romaine, butter, and green leaf lettuce are all excellent choices. If you want to eat local vegetables, you'll need a salad spinner.

Herbs:

Dill is one of my favorite herbs to use in a basic lettuce salad. It'll work with Italian parsley as well, but it's not the same as dill; try it both ways and you'll see!

Onion:

It's a personal preference. Some people like the crunchy bittersweet taste of onion, some people avoid it for bad breath.

Spices:

olive oil, salt, pepper, and toasted sesame oil, which is a hidden ingredient. It must be toasted, which you can get at any grocery store or online. It's a must-have in Asian cooking, and sesame cauliflower and homemade Asian salad dressing wouldn't be the same without it – the toasted variety is essential.

Lettuce-Tomato Salad: How to Make it?

This lettuce salad is so tasty, simple, and inexpensive that it can be on your weekly menu during the summer. Stay tuned for more summer salad recipes for more crowd-pleasing salads.

To begin, wash all the vegetables, cut them up, and toss them into a large salad bowl as you chop. Work your way through the ingredients in the recipe's order.

Season to taste:

There is no need to create a salad dressing. In a bowl, drizzle the oils, white vinegar (if using), salt, and pepper over the vegetables. Toss until everything is incorporated. Lettuce salad tastes best when the delicate lettuce leaves aren't crushed and the juicy vegetables aren't leaking.

Serve:

This lettuce salad should be served within 30-60 minutes of tossing. Lettuce leaves wilt. This delicious salad is to be served beside breakfast or lunch.
