Description

This hybrid between Euphorbia obesa and E. globosa is an interesting and unusual plant, with small almost globular heads, branching freely to form a clumping mass of stems. It is easy in cultivation, and will soon make a good sized clump.

The stems of this species comes the closest to a perfectly spherical ball therefore, earning its name of baseball plant. The stems are comprised of 8 very shallow ribs.

The ribs bear minute tubercles at their centres, from which the flower buds emerge, and its nearly microscopic leaves are produced and are very short lived.

Obesa can slowly grow to 20 cm in height with a diameter of 30 cm.

This rare succulent from Kenya makes an attractive plant for warm, dry environments.

Euphorbia succulent varieties are easy to grow and are suited to any well drained soil in full sun. They grow well when there is a layer of brick and charcoal pieces, on top of which sandy loam soil is spread. They need little maintenance. Young plant are happy growing indoors
