Environment

Oregano doesn t need quite as much water as most herbs. Just water when the soil feels dry to the touch. Water thoroughly and less often.

Plant oregano eight to 10 inches apart in the garden. Oregano grows up to two feet tall and spans about 18 inches across. Oregano is a prolific grower, hence If in a container, be sure the pot is about 12 inches in diameter;

To obtain the optimum potency of flavor, harvest oregano leaves just before the plant flowers, if this can be timed perfectly. Even the subtly flavored flowers are great topped on salads.

Allow oregano plants to grow to about 4 inches tall and then pinch or trim lightly to encourage a denser and bushier plant. Regular trimming will not only cause the plant to branch again, but also avoid legginess.
