Senecio Radicans String of Bananas

Weight:- 400 g

Fishhooks Senecio

Family

Asteraceae

Origin

South Africa

Environment

"String of bananas" plants tolerate a range of light conditions, from bright outdoor sun to medium indoor light, like near a south or west window.. If you plant seems droopy, leggy, pale and you see stems reaching for brighter lighting conditions, the plant needs more light. Try moving it closer to a sunny window. If the "bananas" look yellow or brown at the tips they might have sunburn from too much direct light. Move your plant a few feet each couple of days so it has a chance to adjust gradually to its new conditions.

Description

The string of bananas plant (Senecio radicans) gives the look of an exotic, high-maintenance plant but requires minimal care. It is a fast-growing succulent with vines that can reach at least 3 feet (90 cm) long. The small, up to 1.2 inches (3 cm) long, green, pointed leaves grow single-file along the cascading stems, with the sides of the leaves partly translucent, allowing sunlight to shine through. The flowers are small, cinnamon-scented and white in color.

Care

String of bananas needs a light, fast draining soil mix. Water thoroughly, then allow to dry out slightly between watering. This plant will not tolerate soggy soil. Cut back on water in winter, watering just enough to prevent the soil from drying out. Feed once a month with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted by half.
