Agave Green Steel
Agave Royal Spine is a cross between Agave Macrocantha & Agave Victoriae-Reginae (Compacta) . Agave green steel forms tight-growing, symmetrical rosettses. It forms dense clumps to nearly 2 feet tall by 5 feet wide composed of 10 to 16 inch wide rosettes. The rosettes have narrow steely green leaves that are evenly spaced and radiate straight out from the center of the plant.
The leaves are long & have very straight margins with contrasting small dark brown teeth and an even darker 1 inch long terminal spine along the edges. When this plant begins to flower the center leaves take on an attractive reddish hue where the dark red inflorescence begins to emerge. Although it is monocarpic, it can take 15 years or more to bloom.
Agaves need full sun and gritty soil that percolates easily. They can even do quite well when potted but use an unglazed clay pot that will allow evaporation of excess moisture.
Water needs are moderate to light depending upon the heat of the season but the Cactus should be allowed to dry out before irrigation
In growing season they benefit from the application of a granulated time release fertilizer that will provide nutrient to the plant.
Strong accent, focal point for desert gardens; oasis and xeric landscape design themes. Great for use around desert and oasis ramadas and patios. Often effectively used in mass or groups spaced at 5 to 6 feet on center.
