Mammillaria haageana ssp elegans
Mammillaria elegans, is a globular cactus with dense white spines and white wool. Long-lasting rings of magenta flowers provide beautiful contrast to a white, woolly body. Forms clusters in time.
Globose is 5 - 8 cm in diameter, slightly depressed at the apex with little wool. Abundant wool in the young axils . Elegans has 16 - 18 , white, slender, needle-like radial spines, interlacing somewhat curved, longer at the sides, 1 - 5 mm long. Central spines is stout needle-like to awl-shaped, straight or a little bent, grey-brown, darker at the tip, 5 - 8 mm long.
Mammillaria species like most cacti they're drought tolerant and need very little care and attention to grow well . Plenty of sunshine will keep this cacti more than happy. Provide bright, even light to encourage tight growth and flowering. Some shade during a hot summers day can be helpful to prevent sunburn.
Allow the soil mix to become nearly dry between watering, but then water thoroughly. Suspend watering in the winter, but mist occasionally. Not enough sunlight and over-watering are common mistakes.
Use pot with good drainage and a very porous potting media.
Feed every 4 weeks with a high potassium fertiliser during summer
Suited for window sill and dish gardens
