Description

Thevetia Peruviana is commonly known as Yellow Oleander is a large shrub or a small tree, up to 10 to 20 feet tall with oleander-like leaves mostly in whorls of three, long and narrow up to 10 inches long. Tip of leaves is pointed with a dark green color. Beautiful long funnel shaped double yellow flowers cover the bush or small tree almost year round. It is an excellent plant to use in coastal areas where flowering plants are very limited because of salt conditions.

Its bright fragrant yellow flowers are used for religious purposes in India.

Environment

Thevetia Peruviana requires at least 6 hours of sunlight and warmer condition in the winters. Watering is required 2 - 3 times per week until established. It performs best in moist, well-drained soil. It is pruning to maintain the desired shape.

Landscape Uses

Fast growing and makes an excellent hedge or screening on property borders, or as a standalone specimen.

Caution

Foliage can be irritating to the skin so wear gloves when pruning. If ingested may experience pain in the mouth and lips, may also develop vomiting, cramping, abdominal pain, nausea and bradycardia shortly after ingestion.
