Description

Tillandsia andreana is a beautiful thin leafed air plant with an almost round symmetrical, almost cone shaped appearance. When in bloom it will turn red (blush) in the center and produce a bright red flower. Eventually it will produce many little baby air plants (pups) at the base. Show off this wonderful air plant in a shallow dish, on a piece of driftwood, or by itself.

In its native habitat, this species is pollinated by hummingbirds. Locally, it is visited by sunbirds.

Environment

It likes warmer, humid conditions but will do just fine in a dryer environment with regular misting. Do not allow water to collect in the leaf bases as this will cause the plants to rot. Soak the plant for around 30 min in water every week .

Good ventilation is a must. Feed with dilute liquid fertilizer fortnightly.

Landscape Uses

Ornamental plants which are great for attracting birds.
